Oval Window Repair
Nathaniel Russell House
There was concern this window might fall out due to its size and severe level of deterioration. Removing it from the building was quite a challenge. Once it was on the workbench and the paint, glazer's putty and nails were removed, things began falling apart as these materials had largely come to replace the original joinery. Without careful tracking of the location of parts and pieces throughout the repairs, such a window would never go back together properly. As pieces were consolidated and wood dutchmen were added, the reassembly proceeded with the assistance of bamboo skewers to properly align the multiple muntins at fragile junctures until the entire frame was back together, at which time the window became quite strong and the beauty of the original design shown through.
