Wickham-Valentine Conservation of 1812 Spirit Varnish

Richmond, VA: 1991

Fine arts conservation applied to preserving spirit varnish returned depth, clarity and luster to the original 1812 doors.


IRS Overfinish Removal From 1930s Lacquer

Washington DC: 2006

Using fluorescence microscopy and targeted solvent gels for the selective removal of over-finishes allowed original intact nitrocellulose lacquers to be revealed from beneath a degraded modern varnish.

Building Museum Building-Sized Paint Restoration

Washington DC: 2008

A masonry cleaning project takes a dramatic turn when the bricks are found to have originally been dipped in oil-bound casein in the 1880s. The repair then becomes an 87,500 sq. ft. paintings conservation.
